our guilty love [ic]
"I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way"
"You know, I don't think I mind Lady Gaga so much anymore Ocean. She's grown on me." The sound of the eccentric pop singer's voice would burst loudly through the Jeep Wrangler and cause several people passing by them to stare.Lydia would reach forward, her left hand still on he wheel while her right moved to turn the volume down. Lydia tossed a brief grin over at her best friend and then turned her attention back to the road. They were only a mile away from the college now, and her heart couldn't possibly be beating anymore faster. For the first few months after her sister died, college was the last thing on anyone's mind, especially Lydia herself, but after the third month, Lydia's mother managed to hold back the tears long enough to demand her daughter pack her things to prepare for college. Most people would assume that a death in the family would be cause enough for a break before college, but not for Lydia. Her parents had been planning on their children attending their old college since they were kids, and even though one was gone they knew they couldn't allow the opportunity to slip by for their other daughter. So they packed her things up, and the next day she was off for an early start towards her future. With her best friend along of course.
With the large brown buildings in site, Lydia couldn't help but fidget a bit in her seat, sticking her bottom lip out slightly the left and biting it gently. " I wish they would allow Co-ed room mates. I bet you anything I'll get a bitch of a roommate, but that's the pessimist in me . Hope you don't get someone who litters and drives a car like mine though." Lydia didn't look over at Ocean, but she stopped biting her lip and instead smiled slightly as she pulled into a parking spot near the entrance. Handicapped of course. Lydia would stop the car and reach into the back, pulling out underneath her jacket the blue handicap sign. "Grandma let me borrow it since she stopped driving. Better spots." She quickly hung the blue sign on the mirror and smirked before unbuckling her seat belt and practically jumping out of the car. As soon as her feet landed on the ground she couldn't help but do a small fist pump into the air. Victory punch for her having finally made it into college you could say.
"Let's leave the bags here for now and go check out the main board. I just wanna see who the hell I'm going to be rooming with."
Lydia called out to the other side of the Jeep, right before walking towards the crowd of people who were all hovering around a large white board that had sheets of paper with small print and small tacks hanging. Lydia was never one to tip-toe quietly and wait in the crowd, so much like one would do at a concert, she giggled her way towards the front, knowing she would look for Ocean's name and room as well [mostly because he was too nice to push people]. When she finally made it close enough to read the sheets, she immediately looked for Holstom, muttering a small prayer that she wouldn't get some crazy PETA chick like she had during that one summer at camp. As she hit the H' and spotted her name, her heart immediately froze and a small "Fuck" escaped her lips.
There in bold black print was the name "Parker Llew- something or fucking other. " Of course it actually said Llewelyn but Lydia could never really pronounce her name, nor did she even care too. The Universe had decided to shit on her once again, and Lydia actually felt the strong desire to tear the sheet apart and rip it too pieces. Before she did that though, she scanned for Oceans name and his roommate. Her day could not have possibly gotten any worse as she spotted the even more awful name near her best friends. Christopher Fucking Carol.
God certainly had a shitty sense of humor on this one too. Lydia didn't even bother with any more "Excuse me's" as she made her way through the crowd, her breath slightly ragged as she searched for Ocean. She suddenly felt the back of her legs quiver but she refused to sink to the ground and cry. This was a public place for Christ's sake, she had to get it together. Instead she continued searching around for her best friend, hoping his calming demeanor her would keep her from possibly punching any innocent bystander.
Hopefully.
